COBDEN – The Civitan Club of Cobden held its 25th annual golf tournament at the Oaks of Cobden, despite the current Covid-19 pandemic giving sponsors pause.
“Normally, we have 200 Golfers and 60-plus hole sponsors.” Ted Barron said. “When we sent out the letters to register and be a hole sponsor, with the trying times we were in, we still ended up with 160 golfers and 35 hole sponsors.”
Barron said that they had planned to skip this year due to the pandemic, but had ‘a lot of players’ contact them about going forward.
He said they had opted to ‘scale-down’ the tournament, with no prizes for the individual holes and no big meal served.
Hot-dogs and hamburgers were served from a food trailer provided by the Civitan.
Ted Barron said that the money will go towards the community health centre, Renfrew hospice, and the Pembroke and Renfrew hospitals, as in previous years.
“Once we know what our net dollars are, we can then make the decision to continue our donations.”
Stan Keon and Dave Crozier were the winners of the Pot of Gold raffle.
