Jack Van Starkenburg
– passed away suddenly at home on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at the age of 62.
Jack Van Starkenburg of Pembroke, loving and faithful husband of Debbie Van Starkenburg. Devoted father of Janna Koopman (David), Gerry, John (Aida), Sophia, William (Dominique) and Daniel. Doting Opa to Jack, Drew & Alina Koopman and Felix Van Starkenburg. Son of Janna Prinzen (Hein) and the late Geerlof Van Starkenburg. Brother of Dirk (Cathy), Gerald (Evelyn) & Jane Wouda (Fred), all of Pembroke; William (Corrien) & Casey (Katherine), of Calgary; Mary Ann Benjamins (Ken), of Dundas; and Sue Dam (Ian), of Australia; predeceased by brother Cornelis. He was blessed in life with a large and loving extended family.
Jack was an active member of the Zion Christian Reformed Church of Pembroke. He also served as councillor for Alice and Fraser Township, owned and operated several construction companies in the Pembroke area, and was the coordinator/professor for the Carpenter Apprenticeship Program at Algonquin College before his retirement.
Jack was a leader at home and in his community, always willing to volunteer his time and experience to help the people he loved. We will never be the same without him.
Visitation will be held at Zion Christian Reformed Church, 152 Drive-In Rd., Pembroke on Sunday, March 17, 2019 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at Zion Christian Reformed Church on Monday at 11:00 a.m. Respecting Jack’s wishes, cremation will follow. Arrangements entrusted to the Malcolm, Deavitt & Binhammer Funeral Home. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Ottawa Heart Institute or your local foodbank would be appreciated.
