The sounds of people having a great time could be heard in the area of the Foresters Falls rink all day Saturday.
The annual Foresters Falls Winter Carnival began with a pancake breakfast, which included sausages and beans.
“There was a great turnout for breakfast,” said Dave Alexander, one of the Foresters Falls Athletic Association volunteers.
There were 44 participants in the snowmobile poker run and nine in the 50-50 snowshoe event. Alexandria Nagora won the snowshoe pot while the top three winners in the poker run were Travis Stewart, Derek Black and Griffin Wytenburg.
Rory Schuler won the jellybean count while Hilary Bennett won the 50/50 draw.
The children had fun playing various games on the ice including curling, bowling and ring toss.
In the afternoon, the young at heart games began with the ice boiling competition. Eleanor Waite, who was a champion for many years in this event, went solo while the other two tea boilers were teams. The winner of the tea boiling was the team of Amber and Evie Finan and Tanya Thibeau and Seth Pilgrim. The second place tea boiling went to the team of Petermann brothers, Pierre, Tom and Tim. While Eleanor was declared third place winner, she had no one else on her team to help.
In the log sawing competition, Katie St. Pierre and Connie Tabbert placed first in the women’s division with a time of 40 seconds. In second place was the team of Amber Finan and Tanya Thibeau.
The top men’s team was the old-timers of Keith Bennett and Mac Coughlin with a time of 19.5. Second place finishers were Lindsay Broadhurst and Dave Alexander with a time of 23.2 seconds while third place finishers were Calvin Bennett and Jason Finan with a time of 23.3 seconds.
As for the children’s log sawing, the top three teams were Tim and Tom Petermann (51.6 seconds); Pierre and Tom Petermann (52.3 seconds) and Hilary Bennett and Mary Finan (56.9 seconds).
In the men’s nail driving, Nathan and Raj Aswald tied with three hits each while Tom Petermann was third with four hits.
Melissa Bennett won the women’s nail driving with four hits followed by Katie St. Pieterre with six hits and Amber Finan with seven hits.
The day ended with just over 100 people having fun in the Orange Hall while playing bingo. There were 24 games with an adult and child winner in each game. The prizes were all donated by various businesses and individuals throughout the township. The final game was a lone winner of the $100 prize.
Mr. Alexander said those who saw the magic show were quite impressed.
He noted there were less children this year, but that’s because there are many smaller children or those in their teens and not into the games.
As well, like any winter weekend, there was a lot going on, he added.
The Foresters Falls Athletic Association is always looking for more volunteers, Mr. Alexander said. High school students can also use the time towards their community hours.
