Palmer Rapids man charged with 3 counts of First Degree Murder

WILNO — Three women were found dead in their homes on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
Just before 9 a.m., officers of the Killaloe Detachment of the OPP responded to an incident on Szczipior Road, Wilno. Upon arrival officers located 36-year-old Anastasia Kuzyk, who was deceased.
As a result of information they received during the ongoing investigation, officers attended a second location, a residence located on Foymont Road‎ where they located 48-year-old Nathalie Warmerdam of the Township of Bonnechere Valley, also deceased.
Two hours later, Bancroft OPP officers responded to a residence on Kamaniskeg Lake Road, Bancroft, where they located 66-year-old Carol Culleton of North Gower, deceased.
At approximately 2:30 p.m., Ottawa Police officers, with the assistance of the OPP Aviation Services, arrested 57-year-old Basil Joseph Borutski of Palmer Rapids, in a wooded area at Becks & Kinburn Side Road, near Kinburn, without incident.
Mr. Borutski is in custody in connection with the killings, which occurred in three communities — Wilno, Foymount and Bancroft.
He is charged with three counts of first degree murder.
The victims were known to the accused.
He appeared in the Ontario Court of Justice, Pembroke yesterday (Wednesday, September 23). His next court appearance, by video, will be Monday, Oct. 5.
Post mortem examinations for the victims occurred in Ottawa yesterday.
OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) and Aviation Services with the assistance of the Ottawa Police Service, searched for the armed male suspect. Several locations between Wilno and Ottawa were secured as a precautionary measure, including schools, court houses and lawyers offices. Residents were warned to stay in their homes behind locked doors.
The Killaloe and Renfrew OPP Crime Units, under the direction of A/D/Inspector Mark Zulinski, Detective Inspector Rob Hagerman and Detective Inspector Dave Robinson, Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), with the assistance of the OPP Forensic Identification Services Unit (FISU) are continuing the investigation.
