The Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated 255 calls for service during the previous week.
Domestic Disputes
OPP officers investigated 11 domestic disputes during the past week. One male was charged with two counts of assault, unlawfully in a dwelling, and possession of cocaine, one female was charged with assault and uttering a threat and one male was charged with failing to comply with an undertaking. No other criminal offences occurred.
Sexual Assault
On July 7 OPP officers began investigating a sexual assault complaint involving a female child victim. The investigation revealed the child was sexually assaulted by her mother’s boyfriend on two occasions. A 35-year-old male was arrested and charged with two counts of sexual interference with a person under 16 and two counts of sexual assault of a person under 16. He was held in custody for a bail hearing. His identity will not be released to protect the identity of the victim.
Stolen Vehicle Recovered, Another Stolen
On Thursday July 7 shortly after 5 pm an Auxiliary Officer reported seeing a possible stolen vehicle on Highway 60 going into Renfrew. The OPP located the vehicle, a blue Toyota Matrix which had been stolen in Pembroke overnight. Officers stopped the vehicle on Lochiel Street N in Renfrew and two occupants were arrested while a third ran away and was pursued by officers. He was not located. His identity was known to police. Later that night a 2005 Dodge Caravan was stolen from a residence on Albert Street in Renfrew. The vehicle was recovered in Quebec July 8. Charges are pending against a 17-year-old male from Petawawa.
Many vehicle thefts are thefts of opportunity as keys are often left in vehicles. Secure your vehicle overnight by ensuring you remove keys and lock it. Thieves will move on to find an easy target. Don’t make it easy for them, be a hard target.
Thefts
OPP officers investigated nine theft complaints during the past week. Stolen property includes change and sunglasses from an unlocked vehicle in Arnprior, a blue DEKA BMX bike from a property in Arnprior, a black dump trailer, Ont. Lic. M9299J, from a property in White Lake, gasoline from a gas station, a set of steps from a property in Greater Madawaska, a purse from a vehicle in Renfrew, fishing equipment from vehicles at the boat launch in Arnprior and a theft of electronics from Wal-Mart in Renfrew. Impaired Driver
One male is facing charges after a single motor vehicle collision on Russett Drive in McNab Braeside on Monday July 4 at 3:15 am. A witness called to report hearing the collision and the male driver ran away. Officer attended and caught the male in a backyard nearby. He was arrested for impaired driving. Following breath tests at the detachment Tristan WHITTAKER 28 of McNab Braeside was charged with impaired driving, driving over 80mgs and failing to comply with a probation order. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on August 3.
Mischief
A hunt camp on Highway 41 in Greater Madawaska Township has been a target of vandals recently. Windows have been broken, and attempts to smash locks have done damage but nothing has been stolen.
A pickup truck parked in a residential parking lot on Highway 60 in Horton Township was vandalized. The damage was reported on July 4.
