Renfrew OPP respond to more than 200 calls last week

The Renfrew Detachment of the OPP investigated calls 205 for service during the past week.

Domestic Violence
Renfrew and Arnprior OPP officers investigated six domestic disputes during the past week. No criminal offences occurred.

Assault
One male was arrested after Renfrew OPP officers investigated a complaint from a 12-year-old female victim reported being assaulted by her father. Following the investigation, a 42-year-old male from Renfrew was arrested and charged with assault. He was released on a promise to appear in court in Renfrew on April 5. The accused will not be identified to protect the identity of the victim. Provincial Constable Sarah Darraugh led the investigation.

Thefts
Provincial Constable Tina Hunt is investigating the theft of firewood from a seasonal residence on Green Lake Road in Greater Madawaska Township. The theft was discovered on Monday, February 20. There is a suspect and the investigation is continuing.
Provincial Constable Patrick O’Connor is investigating the theft of a quantity of cash. The victim reported cash missing from a locked box in their home in Renfrew. No forced entry was found on the box or the residence. The investigation is continuing.

Provincial Constable Helen Patterson is investigating a theft of mail complaint. The victim reported on Tuesday, February 21 that someone has stolen mail from an unlocked mailbox and destroyed it. There is a suspect and the investigation is continuing.

On Thursday, February 23 a female attended The Cupboard Restaurant in Arnprior and stole a set of salt and pepper shakers. The theft was captured on video surveillance and the owner called the OPP. After the OPP began their investigation the footage was posted to social media. The suspect attended the restaurant and returned the stolen property. The owner of the restaurant did not wish to pursue the criminal investigation.

Two residents at a senior’s apartment complex on Robert Street in Arnprior reported to the OPP a quantity of cash was stolen from their residences. The thefts were discovered on Friday, February 24. The investigation revealed an unknown female was on the property during the afternoon of Thursday, February 23. She was wearing a nurse’s type of uniform, green or blue hospital scrubs.
A similar description of a suspicious person was seen at another retirement residence in Arnprior, Island View Retirement Residence on Jack Crescent during the late afternoon on Wednesday, February 22. She portrayed herself to be an employee of the building and attempted to offer assistance to the residents.
She is described as being between 20-40 years of age, slender build with shoulder length straight brown hair. She was carrying an umbrella the day she was at Island View. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.

The OPP reminds all members of the public and workers in Senior’s Retirement Homes to be aware of their personal safety at all times. Consider keeping apartment doors locked at all times. Report suspicious people to the OPP for investigation immediately at 1-888-310-1122. The OPP’s website, www.opp.ca, contains a number of useful resources, tips and links.

Two vehicles were stolen from a residence on Fortington Street in Renfrew in the evening of Sunday, February 26. Police responded when a neighbour noticed the activity while the homeowner was away. Both vehicles were recovered and charges have been laid against several young people. The investigation is continuing.
The OPP encourages homeowners to take security measures when they are away. Ensure your driveway is plowed, mail is stopped or picked up and asking a neighbour to keep an eye on your property all make your home looked lived in and ensures problems are reported in a timely manner.

Mischief
A van parked in a driveway on Bert Hall Street in the Town of Arnprior may have been vandalized overnight on Wednesday, February 22. There were several small scratches in the hood of the van that appeared overnight. Provincial Constable Dave Peace is investigating.
