WHITEWATER REGION (Beachburg) — Soccer for children ages three to 12 is at the Beachburg Public School playground each Tuesday.
Organizer Derek McLaughlin wanted children to remain active throughout the summer months, and with the playground sitting empty, decided to host a soccer night each Tuesday starting at 6:30 p.m.
“You don’t see children outside playing,” he said.
There were 50 children in attendance. The cost is $20 per child and you can sign up your child any night, he said. The final night is Aug. 22.
Mr. McLaughlin noted the jerseys were provided by Jack Lavallee at cost.
Wal-Mart provided two deck-sized storage bins with one filled with soccer balls and four large water jugs, he said.
Mr. McLaughlin will provide water and other refreshments for children at each soccer night.
Teams will be made up for games depending on how many children show up, he said.
