PEMBROKE — A Pembroke man has plead guilty to the offence of causing distress to an animal.
Curtis Smith, 35, was charged following an incident with a cow. He was accused of injuring a cow by striking it multiple times with an ice chopper. The cow was injured and treated by a veterinarian.
He appeared in court last month.
Mr. Smith was sentenced to one-year probation and must attend assessment, treatment or counselling.
He was also ordered to pay a $2,500 fine and must make a $1,000 donation to the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or the Farley Foundation. This charity helps low-income pet owners and pets with emergency veterinary care.
