Olympian Melissa Bishop ran the 800 metres at the worlds in London, England with a time of 1:57.68. That time gave her a fifth place finish.
Following the race, the 29-year-old Olympian from Eganville said to the CBC sports commentator, “I don’t think I ran my race. It’s coming, it’s positive, it’s nothing I’m upset about, the result is more what I’m upset about. I’m tired of 1:57s, I want something faster.”
Caster Semenya of South Africa, won gold in 1:55.16 followed by Francine Niyonsaba of Burundi with silver and American Ajee Wilson took the bronze.
In an interview with CBC, her parents Alison and Doug Bishop had nothing but praise for their daughter.
“We’re extremely proud of her,” said Doug, with Alison adding, “She did very, very well. She ran well. She raced well. She spoke well.
“Top five in the world, how awesome is that,” Alison continued, adding, “You can’t say that too often.”
