WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — More than 1,100 gun enthusiasts checked out the 23rd annual Gun Show hosted by the Eganville and District Sportman’s Club.
The event was held on the arena floor of the Astrolabe Arena in Cobden Saturday and Sunday. It was in Cobden’s arena because the Eganville Arena is undergoing a major renovation.
It was held in Cobden because it was the closest rink, said Basil Rose, chair of the show for the club. He said they had been made aware the arena wasn’t going to be available for the show back in January, but being optimistic, it was only a month ago the decision was made to have the event in Cobden.
“The show was another successful one and the club is pleased about the final out come,” he said, adding, “It’s a typical gun show.”
There were about 60 vendors selling anything to do with hunting, including guns, ammunition, bows and arrows, knives, clothing, books, and then there were the other items, like hand guns, jewellry, belts and buckles.
“We had 62 vendors who said they were also very pleased and were looking forward to next year,” Mr. Rose added.
Those at the gun show were from near and far, Cobden, to Hawkesbury, to Oromocto, New Brunswick, and points in-between.
“As chair of the show I would like to say thank you to all who was involved  and special mention to David Bolt who was a great help in setting up the show,” Mr. Rose said. “This is just another example that shows if we work together in the valley we can be successful.
“To the people of Cobden we thank you.”
The 200-member club, which began in 1978, has 400 acres near Bonnechere Caves with a clubhouse and shooting range. Proceeds from the gun show will go towards upkeep of the property, he said.
