OPP ASSIST SURETE DU QUEBEC WITH AMBER ALERT
Accused Remains in Hospital
GRIFFITH — On Friday, September 15, 2017, officers from the OPP were engaged in the successful apprehension of a suspect involved in an Amber Alert initiated by Sûreté du Québec (SQ) on Thursday, September 14, 2017.
The 41-year-old male of Quebec was arrested southwest of Renfrew on Friday late afternoon and taken into custody at the OPP Renfrew Detachment. A six-year-old child was also apprehended safely and later turned over to the care of Quebec child services (Direction de la protection de la jeunesse – DPJ).
On Saturday, September 16, 2017, the accused sustained an injury while in his cell that required medical attention. He was transported to a local hospital for medical assessment. He currently remains in medical care at a local hospital in Ottawa. Special Investigations Unit (SIU) was notified at the time of the incident.
Members of the OPP continue to assist the Sûreté du Quebec with their investigation and the security detail involving the accused. In addition, a parallel investigation is ongoing into any criminal offences that occurred in the province of Ontario, under the direction of OPP Case Manager, Detective Inspector Daniel Nadeau with the Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB).
