WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — A long-time staff member of Whitewater Region will always be remembered with the planting of a tree next spring in Cobden Municipal Park.
Whitewater Region council agreed to the request by family and friends to plant a tree in memory of Patsy Moore. Ms. Moore fought a long battle with cancer, dying on March 1, 2017.
In the request, it was noted that Ms. Moore was a well-known person in the community and was employed by the township for more than 25 years.
“This is a great way to honour her,” said Chief Administrative Officer Robert Tremblay at last night’s council meeting.
Ms. Moore was responsible for lowering and raising the park’s large Canadian flag to half-staff when required, he added.
“Planting a tree nearby in her honour is very fitting,” CAO Tremblay added.
Councillor Daryl McLaughlin questioned if the township could purchase the tree.
“I think it’s a great idea, as Patsy was a long-time, not only an employee, but an ambassador to Whitewater Region,” he said. “In my thoughts, I would like to see us purchase the tree.”
CAO Tremblay said he would check with community services manager Jordan Durocher to see if the tree has been purchased or check to see if the municipality could contribute towards it.
