WHITEWATER REGION — Council members agree that something has to be done about the amount of garbage blowing off vehicles travelling to the landfill site.
“There was a load going to the landfill site and most of it didn’t make it,” reported Councillor Daryl McLaughlin at last night’s council meeting.
When questioned if the person who lost the load on the Queen’s Line picked it up, he said, no. He even brought photos to the meeting for other council members to review.
There has been discussion of ensuring loads are covered when they are going to the landfill site, he said.
Councillor Dave Mackay and Mayor Hal Johnson both agreed with Coun. McLaughlin.
“I see garbage all over the roads all the time,” Coun. Mackay said.
While the mayor agreed, he said it could possibly be a Ministry of Transportation or OPP responsibility. However, he is in favour of council reviewing the situation. He also questioned how it would be enforced.
Coun. Mackay said if it’s not covered when it is brought into the landfill site, it’s just not accepted.
This will be a discussion at an upcoming meeting.
