WHITEWATER REGION (Westmeath) – Newly installed LED (Light-emitting Diodes) ceiling light fixtures in The Westmeath Community Hall means a savings of more than $1,200 in electricity costs.
The banquet room, stage, kitchen and hall entrance were made Greener with much improved illumination with the installation of LED. Replaced were the T1 standard lights, along with their ballasts and lens covers.
Terry Kenny, President of Rondeau Electric in Pembroke, passed on to the Westmeath District Recreation Association its cost of a one-time special order, (25) 2′ x 4′ and (12) 1′ x 4′ fixtures. The 10-year warrantied LED fixtures were installed and chained to the roof frame by project leader Peter Ethier along with Durell Chaput and Devon Chaput.
Mr. Kenny visited the monthly WDRA business meeting to explain about the cost savings. It seems the old fixtures, with their two ballasts, each drew 1.6 amps per unit while the LED required only .3 amps, an energy reduction of 80 percent.
Mr. Kenny’s lighting consultant calculated that the WDRA would save $1,237 annually on average electrical bills.
