WHITEWATER REGION — It’s official!  As of January 21, 2018, the Canada Revenue Agency has declared the Muskrat Watershed Council an official registered charity.

As well as recognizing the Council’s legitimacy and providing a framework for operations, becoming a registered charity means the MWC (Muskrat Watershed Council) can now issue charitable donation receipts for income tax purposes.

The MWC is a volunteer, community-based organization whose goal is to improve water quality for local communities by using scientific and local-based knowledge. The MWC seeks to engage and empower people and communities in identifying and reducing nutrient loading from all sources on the Muskrat Lake Watershed.

The MWC is working hard to improve water quality in Muskrat Lake and its watershed. It continues to reach out to interested individuals, lake associations, municipalities, Renfrew County agencies, provincial ministries, federal agencies, environmental groups and academic institutions like Algonquin College.

All monthly MWC meetings are open to the public and the Council is actively seeking new members and partners. The next MWC meeting is Thursday, July 19, and the annual general meeting will be Thursday, August 16. Both meetings will be held at the Township of Whitewater Region Community Hall, 44 Main Street, Cobden (rear entrance), starting at 6:30 p.m.

Donations to the MWC can be made in several ways:

By credit card, through its website:

By E-transfer, by sending an email money transfer to:

By mail, by sending a cheque to:

Muskrat Watershed Council, P.O. Box 317, Cobden, ON, K0J 1K0.

Donations of $20 or more will include membership in the MWC, which will put you on our mailing list and give you voting rights.

Your donation will help fund local projects, outreach/education events, and our general operations (e.g., printing, mailing, etc.). By donating to the Muskrat Watershed Council, you are directly contributing to improving water quality within our watershed – and helping improve quality of life for future generations.
