OPP arrest shoplifter and recover stolen guitar

PEMBROKE At approximately 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2018 members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the OPP responded to a shoplifting incident after a man stole an acoustic guitar from Bob’s Music in downtown Pembroke.

The suspect fled on foot and was briefly followed by customers until he brandished a weapon.

 Police identified a suspect and the male was arrested in the early morning hours of Sunday, December 30, 2018 after being located on foot in Pembroke.

As a result of this incident 22-year-old Benjamin Dalton Leclaire of Pembroke has been charged with Theft under $5,000 and Assault with a weapon, both Criminal Code offences.

Mr. Leclaire was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody until his next court appearance.

The stolen guitar has been recovered and the OPP would like to thank the public for their assistance with this investigation.
