ARNPRIOR/ATHENS — The Whitewater Kings split a pair games over the weekend.
The Arnprior Packers defeated the Kings 6-4 in Arnprior while the Kings shutout the Athens Aeros 3-0 Saturday night in Athens.
The Kings have a busy schedule this week, with four games scheduled starting Friday night and ending Wednesday evening.
Friday night, Jan. 18, the Whitewater Kings travel to Westport for an 8 p.m. game against the Rideaus followed by a home game at the Astrolabe Arena in Cobden against the Perth Blue Wings Saturday, Jan. 19 at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday, Jan. 20, the Embrun Panthers come to the Astrolabe Arena for a 2 p.m. game against the Kings followed by the Kings travelling to Brockville on Wednesday, Jan. 23 for a 7:45 p.m. game against the Tikis.
It was going to be a tough game for the Kings, as the Packers were on the scoreboard 5-1 at the end of the first period. Kings’ lone goal scorer was Alec Lindecker, assist Conrad Cybulski and Jared Campitelli.
In less than a minute into the second period, King Dylan Kuehl scored, assist to Tommy Cahill and Quinn Vanhoof and half-way through, Campitelli scored, assist to Liam Enright and Kiefer Levasseur. The Packers scored once.
In the final period, each team scored, King Vanhoof unassisted with four minutes left on the clock.
Sitting in the sin bin were the Kings for 26 minutes while the Packers sat out 36 minutes
King goalie Kevin Proulx suffered the loss, stopping 27 of 29 shots on goal in the final two periods while King goalie Bennett Oxborough stopped 11 of 15 goals in the first period. Packer goalie Cameron Scott stopped 54 of 58 shots on goal.
Vanhoof earned a third star while the first two were awarded to Packers Adam Church and Cameron Scott.
In Saturday’s shutout, the Kings scored all three in the second period: Liam Enright assist Vanhoof and Levasseur; Vanhoof assist Kuehl and Cahill; and Ben Edwards, assist Cybulski and Jared Burnette.
The Kings sat out 25 minutes in the penalty box while the Aeros sat out 27 minutes.
King goalie Oxborough had the win, stopping all 29 shots on goal, while Aeros goalies Mitchell Rukavina stopped 32 of 35 shots on goal in the first two periods and Morgan Penwell stopped 10 of 10 in the final period.
Kings Vanhoof and Oxborough earned first and second stars while Aero Eric Hulford was awarded the third.
