RENFREW COUNTY (Pembroke) — The Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) recently participated in the Provincial Fall Seatbelt Campaign which ran from October 2 to October 11.
During this annual traffic safety initiative officers took part in a number of initiatives to stress the importance of occupant restraint when travelling in a motor vehicle. The effort included increased focused patrol for seatbelt violations which led to 85 motorists being charged with seatbelt offences by Upper Ottawa Valley OPP officers during the campaign.
The OPP reminds road users that while the seatbelt campaign is over, officers are committed to traffic safety year-round. They are calling on all drivers and passengers to buckle up in order to reduce the risk of injury and death in motor vehicle collisions.
