WHITEWATER REGION – The Committee of Adjustment for Whitewater Region called a meeting on January 7th, streamed live to Youtube via the Whitewater Region Official Channel, using a Zoom call.
The meeting was called to discuss a minor variance for a property at 28 Astrolabe Road, Lot 333, to grant “relief to increase the encroachment of an open roofed porch from 2.5 metres to 3.2 metres within the minimum front yard depth and increase the maximum lot coverage from 33% to 40%.”
“Mr Shields wants to build an open-roofed porch on the front of his house.” said Doug Shultz, CBO. “He’s looking for relief from the encroachment. Also, he’s building an addition on the back which will . There isn’t a septic system, he’s on water and sewer.”
Councillor Mackay asked if there were any foreseen problems, which CBO Shultz said there was nothing he could see.
“This is as minor as it gets in my opinion.” Councillor Chris Olmstead said.
Councillor MacLaughlin asked for clarification of the 2.5 metres in feet, and it was confirmed it was 8.1 feet.
As Doug Shields was not present in the Zoom call, Councillor McLaughlin read the motion and it was voted and approved.
“This is one of the quickest meetings we’ve had.” Councillor McLaughlin said.
The previous meeting’s minutes were approved, and the meeting was ended.
There is a 20-day appeal period, and CBO Shultz confirmed that the neighbours were informed of the change.
