Foresters Falls — The noise level in Foresters Falls is higher than normal with two renovations happening.
Ross Museum is getting a new cedar shingle roof while there’s an addition going onto the back of the Foresters Falls Library.
Murray Keuhl was hired to put on the shingles and he’s receiving volunteer help from Bert Olmstead and his son-in-law Nathan Jahn.
Work began Tuesday and there was hope it would be completed by Wednesday evening or Thursday morning.
The shingles were purchased from Bell Lumber in Renfrew, noted Mac Coughlin, president of the Whitewater Historical Society, which operates the museum.
With no grant monies available, the society reached out to the community for donations, he said. The shingles cost about $55 a pack and about 25 of them were purchased.
“We could not have done this without the generosity of the people,” Mr. Coughlin said.
He noted the Cobden and District Civitan Club and the municipality each contributed some funds as well.
The roof was first done about 20 years ago, Mr. Coughlin said.
“These new singles should last longer than that,” he added.
The Museum, exhibit hall, machine shed and gardens are being prepared for opening day, which is May 11.
There are only two events scheduled for this year so far, he said. The first is the plant sale on Saturday, May 30 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Proceeds from the sale are going towards repairing the benches in the community garden.
The other event is a 30th anniversary dinner, which is at the Orange Hall in Foresters Falls on Saturday, Sept. 25. More information on this event, as well as any others that may get scheduled, will be announced in whitewaternews.ca
Across the road, and behind the library, Al Harris and his crew are busy building a new addition. Eventually, they will move into the library and do renovations there.
Mr. Harris, owner of Harris Construction, is hopeful the work will be done by mid-June. However, if there are delays, that’s fine, as long as it’s done by July, which is the date on the contract, he added.
