WHITEWATER REGION — The Council of the Township of Whitewater Region appointed Mr. Guy Longtin as Acting Fire Chief, effective March 15 to the end of 2020.

Chief Longtin started in the fire service as a volunteer firefighter with the Horton Township Volunteer Fire Department in 1979. He was named Fire Chief in 1985. He also served as Fire Chief in Seeley’s Bay from 1988 to 1992 and became the Fire Chief of the Renfrew Fire Department from 1992 until recently. He assisted the Township of Whitewater Region in an acting capacity in 2017 and is a graduate of the Fire Protection Technology advanced course from the Ontario Fire College.

The Township thanked Deputy Fire Chief Jonathan McLaren for his on-going leadership, as he has served as Acting Fire Chief since January. The Township is reviewing the restoring and structure of the Fire Department after a successful two year transition. Fire Services is being examined as part of a joint service delivery review being undertaken with adjacent municipalities. The review is funded by the Province of Ontario and a report is expected this summer.
