To the readers of Whitewater News
In last week’s issue of Whitewater News, the all-candidate’s meeting story, All municipal candidates provided opportunity to get to know them better, was published.
I wrote, “Ms. Regier read aloud a statement that has been going around facebook about the three types of people running for council…”
I must stress, Ms. Regier did not get the statement from facebook. I have been advised it is the same statement she read aloud for her candidacy in 2014. Ms. Regier, I apologize for alluding that you took the statement from facebook, when in fact you did not.
I was also informed, through a posting on facebook and private message, that since the owner of Whitewater News is also running for the position of reeve, I was biased against Ms. Regier by not publishing her platform.
I did not publish anyone’s platform, but wrote what they said in their closing statements, some answering questions from the floor, others reading aloud their prepared statements.
I have chosen to run exactly what Ms. Regier said in her closing remark for two reasons.
The first is because I stand corrected – her statement was not taken from facebook, it was the same statement she read in 2014.
The second reason is I want it known that my writing is not influenced by whom is running in this election. While I do get to vote, I want it known that any stories I write are not biased for or against any candidate.
Reeve candidate Cathy Regier’s closing statement as she read aloud at the Sept. 17 all-candidates meeting held in Beachburg:
“A wise person said to me once there are three types of individuals who seek the position of an elected official.
The first candidate has a personal agenda. He, or she, has their own cause they hope to obtain for their own benefit or growth.
Person 2 may want to pursue a supplement income and achieve financial gain.
Individual 3 is a person like me, who just wants to make a difference by working hard for the betterment of our municipality and our county.
I work, live and play in Whitewater Region and my only agenda is to somehow make some small contribution that makes our municipality a great place to live so we can all continue to thrive and grow together.”
Again, my apologies to Ms. Regier.
