Editor’s Note: A letter was submitted on November 12 protesting the potential change to this road’s name, before this Council Meeting on the 17th. It is included on this page.
That Council of the Township of Whitewater Region approve keeping the present name for Bromley Street in Cobden.
“[The community] have submitted changing the name was an inconvenience.” CAO Trembley said.
He also said they suggested changing the name to Gerald Bromley Street, after a a WW2 soldier killed.
He thanked the Whitewater Historical Society for their feedback and information regarding the history of the name of the Cobden Street.
He said that any decision to change the name in the future would come to public meeting and be subject to community feedback.
“If there is a duplicate, shouldn’t we be advised by the Renfrew County paramedics if there is an issue.” Councillor Jackson said. “ I think we need to stop identifying roads that need to be changed, but I think that we need to wait until there is an emergency. I know that it’s too late when an emergency has happened, but we’ve had the 911 system in place for some time now. I struggle sometimes with going out and stirring it up.”
“This would be the only other case of a duplicate in the Whitewater Region.” Trembley said.
“I know that people get excited with a change, but we notify them head of time and get that feedback. We’re not going around for the sake of it, it’s because duplicates can be problematic.”
The motion was carried.
