The Council heard a recommendation that Council of the Township of Whitewater Region approve an amendment to the zoning category of the property described as Part of Lot 26, Concession 3, Calvin Road, from “Rural (RU) Zone” to the “Rural – Exception Forty-One (RU-E41) Zone”.
Ivan Burton said the application was to allow for a ‘secondary dwelling unit’ to ‘provide housing for a family member’.
He said there was a hydro-geological survey for the property, and it would be serviced by the hydro system.
“It does provide for a compact residential unit, and it provides affordable housing.” he said. “It does support the official plan. Staff is supportive of the motion.”
Councillor Daryl McLaughlin asked if there was a dwelling on the property already, or if they were both to be constructed.
“The property is currently vacant, and the applicant will be constructing both residences on the property.”
Councillor Nicholson asked if they were both part of the same unit.
“I hope that we would be able to amend our zoning agreement to support this outright.” Nicholson said.
The motion was carried.
