WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — Parades, a poker run and fireworks displays helped Canadians in the Township of Whitewater Region celebrate Canada’s 152nd birthday on Monday. National pride was displayed through celebrations in Cobden on June 30 and in Foresters Falls and Westmeath on July 1.

According to the Cobden Recreation Association’s (CRA) organizer, Julie Hennessy, the poker run in Cobden had a good turnout, even though the waters were choppy. Later in the evening at dusk, a display of fireworks lit up the night sky.

“It was the best fireworks show I’ve ever seen,” is just one of the many positive remarks overheard by attendees after the event.

The CRA hosts many fundraising initiatives throughout the year and is a nonprofit organization of volunteers. Jesse Jacques is the current president.

Foresters Falls held a costume parade for Canada Day in the afternoon on July 1. The event was put on by the Whitewater Historical Society.
