Woodstock – For the third consecutive time, Caressant Care Nursing and Retirement Homes Limited has been awarded a three year accreditation from CARF International for “Person-Centred Long-Term Care Community”. This accreditation represents the highest level that can be awarded to an organization and shows Caressant Care’s substantial commitment to improving the quality of life for our residents.
CARF is an independent, non-profit accrediting body whose mission is to provide the quality, value, and optimal outcomes of services through a consultative accreditation process that centers on enhancing the lives of the persons served.
Some of the highlights of the extensive Caressant Care accreditation reports include:
• All of the Homes have developed solid stakeholder engagement and links with their local communities. This was especially noticeable in the rural communities where the Homes are very visible and well supported by the local residents, businesses, and associations.
• The Bourget Home serves a very diverse population. Fifty percent are under the age of 75 with a mental health diagnosis. It was evident that the residents feel like they have a voice in their treatment and with the program staff. This is often a population that does not feel valued; however, it is clear that the staff at Bourget has empowered them to know their importance and worth as people. The residents feel more motivated and hopeful, because they are the ones making decisions about improving areas of their lives.
• The Cobden Home is actively engaging the outside community to come into the Home. This was evident by the Diabetic Clinic, Children and Family Services, and the Toddler Day Programs that routinely meet on site.
• Caressant Care has developed a strong internet presence through Facebook and has used this resource as a way to share many individual resident stories and experiences with the broader community. The Facebook site contains many engaging stories about the residents and presents a very positive and insightful look at the people who live in the local Homes.

“We pride ourselves on being an active and engaged member of our communities,” says Lee Griffi, Manager of Corporate Communications. “To have CARF make it official through accreditation reinforces the fact that we are an important part of the community by providing care, employment, corporate sponsorship and more. It’s wonderful for us to hear we are resident-focused and committed to quality improvement because at the end of the day, we are here to provide a safe and caring Home for our residents. Our dedicated front-line staff members deserve a lot of credit for this achievement.”
