WHITEWATER REGION (Beachburg) – The Beachburg Horticultural Society is celebrating its 60th Anniversary in May.
In 1959 a group of more than 50 avid gardeners organized their Society under the Ontario Horticultural Association. With a membership of 50, they became eligible for an Annual Grant of $1,000. However, over the years aging, relocation, busyness and other changes in the Society has challenged its membership.
The Society is very proud to have four Certified Horticultural Judges in its membership who qualify to judge Flower Shows at other Societies and Fairs when requested.
The Society continues to promote Horticulture goals:
Protection of our environment; Encourage public planting; Hold meetings regularly with interesting programs on gardening topics; Stimulate interest in Horticulture; Hold flower and vegetable shows to educate the public; Hold two Teas a year with the Flower Shows as a social event; Promote outdoor beautification ; Arrange garden tours to places of interest; Hold a Plant Sale in May to attract gardeners for bargains and new plants and Plant a tree in memory of deceased life members locally.

Can we interest you in joining the Society for all these benefits? We meet the fourth Thursday of most months at the Beachburg Lion’s Hall at 1:30 p.m. Single membership is $10 and a family membership is $15.

Community support from corporate sponsors is most appreciated. We are grateful for the local caregivers who carefully tend our 12 large planters placed along Main Street of Beachburg to welcome visitors during the summer months.
On Saturday, May 25, the Beachburg Horticultural Society is celebrating its 60th Anniversary with two events at St. Andrew’s United Church Hall in Beachburg. There is a flower show at 4:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 5:30 p.m.
The keynote speaker is Blaine Marchand – a Peony specialist. Everyone is invited to attend.
