BEACHBURG — Cecil Dobson is 100 years old and to celebrate this milestone, his two sons, Jim and Dave, hosted a party at Country Haven, where their father resides.
“Dad lived most of his life on the farm on Snake River Line,” Dave said.
Along with working the farm, he was instrumental in helping to build St. Patrick’s Anglican Church basement; was the church janitor and in charge of the cemetery.
He was also a mailman for Cobden for many years, Jim recalled.
When Cecil was 70 years old, he and wife Ida moved off the family farm into an apartment on Crawford Street. But, Cecil didn’t quite give up farming, going back to help his son Jim, who still lives on the farm with his wife Beth.
In 1999, Mrs. Dobson died and five years ago, Cecil moved into Country Haven.
“Dad’s memory is worsening, so we thought it was best if he went into the home,” Dave said.
Dave remained single and was a high school teacher for 30 years.
Jim and Beth have two children, Jason and Jayme. Jayme is married to Alberto and they have three children, Rylee, Morgan and Nevaeh.
