LAURENTIAN VALLEY — On Tuesday, March 27, the Crime Unit of the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the OPP began investigating after a break and enter was reported at residence on Round Lake Road in Laurentian Valley Township.

The property owner returned home at approximately 930 p.m. and was assaulted by a male suspect who had broken into the victim’s residence. The home owner sustained serious injuries as a result of the assault.

The suspect then stole the victim’s vehicle and fled the scene. The vehicle, which had been burned, was recovered a short time later on Round Lake Road.

As a result of this investigation 59-year-old Pembroke resident Kevin Garfield John was arrested on Wednesday, October 10. He faces the following Criminal Code (CC) charges:

  • Aggravated assault
  • Arson
  • Robbery with violence

He was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody until his next court appearance on October 12bat the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.

Investigators believe the incident was not random in nature. Police are not seeking any further suspects at this time and there are no known public safety concerns.
