The Cobden and District Civitan Club hosted its annual awards banquet Saturday night at the Cobden Legion.
Stewart and Vera McBride were presented with the Citizen of the Year award.
In the nomination form for Ms. McBride the items listed for her volunteerism were: past ladies president of Ag Society and Cobden Curling Club; ran the food booth at the Cobden Fair for the Cobden Ag Society for more than 15 years; helped co-organize the annual New Year’s Eve Party at the Ag hall for more than 20 years; current co-chairwoman for the kitchen committee that serves meals in the Ag Hall for the Cobden Fair; helps organize and make the meals for various events at the Ag Hall; helps organize the annual Cobden and Area Business Christmas Dance; active volunteer for the Cobden Agricultural Society / Cobden Fair for 35+ years and 20 years an active volunteer for the Cobden curling club; past treasurer of Grace United Church and current treasurer of Cobden curling club ladies division.
The committees and volunteer jobs that Mr. McBride has been involved in are: director and past president of the Cobden Ag Society and an active volunteer at the Cobden Fair for 35+ years; director and past president of the Cobden curling club; helped co-organize various events at the Ag Hall for more than 20 years; member of the Renfrew County Plowmen’s Association; member of the Twp. of Admaston/Bromley Emergency Planning Committee; was a member of the Renfrew County Wall of Fame and Cobden Union Cemetery Board and Grace United Church manse.
The McBride’s hosted the Renfrew County Rural Ramble in September 1999 and the Renfrew County Plowing match in 2010 and hosted several barn meetings for different bus tours.
Kevin Lamorie was presented with the Civitan of the Year award.
A special presentation to three charter members also took place. Don Helferty, Ted Barron and John Mains were each presented with a Civitan Honour Key.
