WHITEWATER REGION – The Council saw a motion to approve the continuation of ice operations at the Cobden Area.
Jordan Durocher said that the ice was maintained for user groups interested in using the ice for events.
The provincial lockdown prevented its used, started Boxing Day.
“An estimated shortfall of $27, 000 is to be expected.” Durocher said.
He said that there was also $20,525.00 in expenses.
He said that with the rentals, they stand to get $20,500 in REnfrew
“At this point in time we do think this is a viable decision, with the six week period of the remaining operating season.”
Councillor Daryl McLaughlin worried that the province would extend the lockdown.
“I’m ready to take the ice out and call it a day, and save any money we can save.” He said.
Durocher confirmed the lockdown would be finished on February 11th.
Councillor McLaughlin said he would approve it until then, but suggested that they amend the motion.
As the next regular meeting was on the 17th, so Clerk Carmen Miller suggested the Mayor call a special meeting.
The Mayor said that they would likely know early in the month if keeping the ice would be viable.
“I think the costs themselves are cost-effective.” Mayor Moore said.
“Let’s see what February brings.” Councillor McLaughlin said.
Councillor Nicholson said that due to the expenses, the meeting could wait until the end of February.
He also said that a special meeting on the 12th would be necessary if the lockdown is continued.
