Cobden — The Cobden Curling Club is facing a large financial challenge and is hoping the community will help out. One half of the ice plant and compressor is no longer functioning and the half that is working is struggling as it is doing double the job, explained Helen Francis, a club member. A new plant and compressor costs $55,000, plus the costs for removal and installation of a new compressor, which comes to an approximate total of $100,000. While grants are being sought, Ms. Francis noted none have been found for capital upgrades. Fundraisers are being planned and donations are welcome, she said. The Cobden Curling Cub has been in existence since 1960 and many generations have been involved, Ms. Francis said. The club provides fun for all ages including after school for youth, a physical education program for students in Grade 4 at Cobden District Public School, as well as visits from other schools, and 4-H sports club members. The Cobden Curling Club is still providing fun, with games many evenings and weekends, she said.
