Council remuneration tallies $160,000

WHITEWATER REGION — The final amount for Whitewater Region council remuneration for the former and current council to December 31, 2018, totalled $160,000.

The amounts included the honourarium, benefits, expenses and donations made by each council member to a local organization at the discretion of the elected officials.

Mayor Hal Johnson received $26,522.25, which included an honourarium of $21,005.38, $4,009.47 in expenses and donated $700. He also received an honourarium from the Ottawa River Power Corp, as council’s representative, for $5,242.40.

Mayor Mike Moore received a partial of the mayor’s honouraium at $1,909.58 plus $507.53 in expenses.

Reeve Terry Millar received an honourarium of $15,972.88, which was less than the allotted amount as he completed his term in early December. His total came to $16,809.55, including $60.71 in expenses and paid out $200 in donations.

Each councillor received an honourarium of $17,425, except Councillor Neil Nicholson, who received only a partial payment of $1,452.08 of the honourarium as he came onto council in early December, and claimed no expenses or made donations.

All of council also had benefits paid on their behalf, which totalled $4,650.72, with Mayor Johnson’s being $807.40; Mayor Moore at $73.40; Reeve Millar at $575.96; Coun. Nicholson at $52.36 and the other councillors total was $628.32 each.

Councillor Dave Mackay was the highest paid councillor, tallying up $21,496.61, which included the council honourarium and benefits, expenses totalling $3,243.29 and donated of $200.

Councillor Daryl McLaughlin tallied $21,495.07, including the honourarium and benefits, expenses totalling $2,941.75 and donated of $500.

Councillor Chris Olmstead collected $21,112.60, which included the honourarium and benefits, expenses of $2,559.28 and donated $500.

Councillor Charlene Jackson tallied up $18,809.29, which included the honourarium and benefits, expenses of $255.97 and donated $500.

Councillor/Reeve Cathy Regier received the honourarium and benefits along with $728. 94 in expenses and donated $500, totalling $19,282.26.

Bernard Tracey, who was council’s representative on the Ottawa River Power Corp., received an honourarium of $5,242.40 from the corporation itself, not from the township.
