PEMBROKE – The County of Renfrew was notified December 31st of a positive COVID-19 test result involving a County of Renfrew employee who works at Miramichi Lodge. The employee last worked at the Lodge on Dec. 27th on Resident Home Area 3A with no resident interactions and a small number of co-worker interactions. While the employee wore personal protective equipment including a surgical mask and protective eye wear; in consultation with Dr. Robert Cushman, Renfrew County & District Medical Officer of Health, and out of an abundance of caution, Miramichi Lodge will be testing all residents and employees.
Consistent with the provincial directives when a long-term care home has a positive COVID result; Miramichi Lodge must suspend all general visits to the Home. Designated essential caregivers are still permitted; one per resident per visit.
“We wish the employee a speedy recovery at home and are hopeful that no residents or additional staff test positive”, said Warden of the County of Renfrew, Debbie Robinson.
Rigorous infection management practices and procedures remain in place at Miramichi Lodge. The Home has been working in close partnership with the Renfrew County and District Health Unit to ensure every possible step has been taken to protect residents and staff. “The health and safety of our residents and our employees remain our top priority. We continue to follow the advice of our colleagues at Public Health to ensure our people are protected while providing care and delivering essential services to our residents”, said Director of Long-Term Care, Shelley Sheedy.
The County of Renfrew thanks the community for its understanding during this difficult time and assures the public it is continuing to make decisions in the best interest of our residents and staff to ensure their health and safety is first and foremost.
