BEACHBURG — The County of Renfrew will be celebrating National Forest Week on September 20, with a “Walk in the Woods with the County Forester”, starting at 2 p.m. at the Beachburg Tract of the Renfrew County Forest. The walk will take place through the first Renfrew County Forest and discuss tree and plant species, sustainable forest management and forest history. This is a public event, and the walk will take place on a trail with level terrain. Attendees can meet in the parking lot at 631 Government Road (coming from Beachburg, right before Fletcher Road). Rain or shine. All ages welcome! For more information, contact Lacey Rose at 613-735-3204 or [email protected].

The County is also pleased to partner with Forests Ontario in a 3-day forestry education event during National Forest Week. Forestry Connects will bring 30 students and their teachers from urban centres to Renfrew County. The event is bringing together local industry, government and other forest stakeholders to spread the word about the world-class forest management that takes place in Ontario. For more information or to be involved in Forestry Connects, please contact Forests Ontario at 1-877-646-1193 or [email protected].

Forests are a very important part of Renfrew County: economically, ecologically and aesthetically, as well as a mainstay of our culture and heritage. Many members of our communities are connected to and dependant on forests for their livelihoods and way of life. The County of Renfrew is proud to celebrate National Forest Week from September 20-26 this year. During National Forest Week, Canadians are invited to learn more about Canada’s forest heritage and to raise awareness about this valuable and renewable resource.

County of Renfrew Warden Peter Emon said, “The forestry industry is a vital part of Renfrew County, as are tourism activities that utilize our beautiful forest areas. The multi-use nature of our forests is worth celebrating, and we are pleased to participate in National Forest Week”.
