W.I. District Director’s Meeting
The Women’s Institute District Directors for the North Renfrew District recently met and in the absence of District President Juliana Coulas, District Secretary Ruth Douma chaired the meeting and was also the Secretary. The Institute Ode was recited, followed by the Mary Stewart Collect. Minutes from the previous meeting were approved as read. Ruth Douma read a letter from Juliana Coulas who advised she was resigning as District President due to health problems.
R.O.S.E. Report: A R.O.S.E. Workshop was held Sept. 22, 2018 at the Beachburg Lion’s Hall. Julia O’Ryan talked about Food Waste, and safety and you. Topic related to health risks, cleaning, chilling, fridge and freezer temp on a long list of food items from fish to eggs to veggies. Internal temperature of food was listed and along with that came recipes for fruit almost too ripe to eat. Other untitled recipes were for tomatoes, watermelon, left over roast beef, and more. Food recipes were tasted there, and Ruth Douma did a small presentation of Eatable Food Art. She did a demonstration and had lots of food to taste.
Quilt Report: The total expenses were $709.53. Total Revenue was $2,548.80. Profit was $1,839.27. The biggest profit was from the members selling tickets at the Renfrew County Plowing Match, Cobden Fair, Area Convention and the Cobden Farmers Market Christmas Market. The winner of the quilt was Marian McWade of Cobden. A picture was sent to the Home & Country magazine and was also published in Whitewater News.

District Treasurer Iris Biggs gave her report.
Fair List: Queen’s Line gave a report on the list. The Theme for this year is Think Snow.
Tweedsmuir Competition: Iris Biggs advised that Queen’s Line and Forester’s Falls were the only branches to enter. A discussion was held if the District wishes to continue with this annual competition. It will be discussed at the District Annual.
District Quilt: The Greenwood branch will be in charge of the quilt this year and tickets will be printed, and venues booked for selling tickets.
Newspaper Liaison: Elaine Hennessy reported that 3 branches are reporting on their meetings and activities, and that she is e-mailing the article to The Whitewater News each month.
District Annual: This will be held on May 16 in the Trinity United Church hall in Foresters Falls and will be hosted Forester’s Falls branch. Registration is at 5:30 p.m; supper at 6 p.m. and the meeting at 7 p.m.
New Business: Ruth Douma reminded members about the Women’s Addiction Center which is to open in Pembroke, and if the District would like to raise funds to help and support this endeavour. $200 from the Area R.O.S.E. program is possible. The book Ordinary to Extraordinary is on sale for $10 including taxes. An effort will be made to try and find a new District President. Ruth Douma hopes to hold another R.O.S.E. Workshop and invite members from the OPP and Paramedics to speak.
Tweedsmuir History Books are to be in to Iris Biggs by May 2.
