Domestic dispute investigation leads to charges

PETAWAWA – On Saturday, December 8, at approximately 3 a.m., officers from the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the OPP responded to a domestic dispute at a residence in the Town of Petawawa. The male suspect had left the scene after pointing a firearm at the female victim and assaulting her. The suspect also damaged property belonging to her. The victim sustained minor injuries.

Police located and arrested the 31-year-old male suspect the next day. As a result of the investigation he faces the following Criminal Code charges: Pointing a firearm; Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; Assault; Overcome resistance by attempting to choke, suffocate or strangle another person and Mischief under $5,000.

The name of the accused is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
