Family dispute leads to charges

RENFREW COUNTY (Pembroke) — On September 29, at approximately 12:30 a.m. members of the Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to family dispute on Carmody Street in the City of Pembroke. The suspect made threats to police, damaged a family member’s residence and refused to co-operate with police. OPP’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) also responded to the incident. The multi-unit dwelling was evacuated for public safety reasons until the situation was resolved. The TRU team made entry to the residence and the accused was taken into police custody without further incident just before 5:00 a.m.

As a result of this incident a 33 year old Pembroke resident has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm – two counts
  • Fail to comply with recognizance – two counts
  • Fail to comply with probation
  • Mischief over $5000

The accused was held for a bail hearing and will appear on September 30, at the Ontario Court of Justice in the City of Pembroke. The name of the accused is being with withheld in order to protect the identity of the victim.
