EGANVILLE — In connection with Bike Month and the Silver Chain Challenge, OVCATA – the Ottawa Valley Cycling and Active Transportation Alliance – is holding a Father’s Day Bike-And-Hike starting from Bonnechere Caves, on the 4th Chute Road east of Eganville, on Sunday, June 17.
Participants will meet at 9 a.m. in the parking lot at the Caves of cycling and walking tours for people “age 5-95” and participants of abilities. Loaner bikes and helmets will be available for those who want to try riding for the first time in a while.
OVCATA will have free snacks, drinks and give-aways, courtesy of the Renfrew County Seniors Active Transportation project, which is funded by the Ontario Ministry of Seniors Affairs.
“The Caves is a great place to walk or ride from,” said OVCATA activist and owner of the Caves Chris Hinsperger. “There are so many great, safe cycling and walking routes and great sights. “We’re happy to host this celebration of active transportation.”
The event is also an opportunity for participants to get involved in the Silver Chain Challenge, the online competition between Eastern Ontario counties to see which county’s residents can log the greatest distance biking, walking or running. The website is www.silverchainchallenge.ca.
