Mayor Nicholson said he attended 12 meetings over February, and asked the Deputy Mayor to attend one other “due to a conflict.”
He said he participated in the opening ceremonies and assist in the badminton medal ceremony for the Ottawa Valley Winter games.
“It was incredible for me to meet so many volunteers from the Whitewater Region at these games.. We were very well represented, and I thank you for your commitment to these games.”
He said February would have him participating in the Annual Budget Workshop and the County Council on March 1st, and would be setting up meetings with other municipalities.
He also said he was to attend a presentation by OPG and the Upper Ottawa River Information in preparation for the spring melt and an “all day training webinar in support of my county responsibilities on the board of health.”
He said that the Council staff was encouraging the boards and committees such as the Muskrat Watershed and Whitewater Historical Society to present in front of council, as the Library Board did.
Deputy Mayor Cathy Regier announced Diana Nicholson accepting the position of engineering and Environmental Superintendent.
Councillor Connie Tabbert said the Library is hosting a Winter Fun Fest on Saturday February 18 from 1:30-3:30 and a spaghetti luncheon at noon.
She also said a satellite library would be coming to the Grace School in Westmeath, with “more information to come.”
She said the Orange Hall would host the Forester’s Falls Winter Carnival Bingo on Saturday 25, with the Carnival the next day.
She also announced a pancake supper at Grace United Church on the 21st from 4-7pm.
She announced the Cobden District Public School presenting Willy Wonka Junior show on March 1st and 2nd at 6:30pm.
The Cobden Curling Club hosting a fundraising breakfast at on March 5th.
Saturday the 18th at 4 at the Cobden Agricultural Hall, she said they were ‘honouring the years of service” of the recruit firefighters.
Councillor Michael Moore announced a soup luncheon at February 24 at St. Andrew’s United from 11:30 to 1pm, and Tuesday the 28th has a meeting at Beachburg Public School to start celebrations for the 100th anniversary, which required no invitation.
Councillor Joey Trimm said February 21st would have a pancake supper at 4-6pm in Westmeath for Shrove Tuesday, with either $10 or $6 pancake plates.
Councillor Chris Olmstead said that the Civitan Fishing Derby was cancelled, but they would still be going ahead with their draws on the Saturday evening.
He also said that Forester’s Falls Winter Carnival was on Sunday the 19th.
Mayor Nicholson reminded people that the Whitewater Region Community Calendar allows committees and groups to share events.
