WHITEWATER REGION (Foresters Falls) — It was an exciting Winter Carnival in Foresters Falls for many who attended. But, for five certain individuals, it was overwhelming excitement.
This year there’s a new Foresters Falls Athletic Association committee of Daniel James, president; Kirby Punt, vice-president; Meghan James, secretary; and directors Erin Hawthorne and Tracy Hunt.
“The previous committee gave up their posts and we stepped up,” Mr. James said. “We went to a meeting and decided it was time to become more involved in the community.
“We jumped in with both feet,” he said with a laugh, adding on a more serious note, “It’s sometimes too easy to expect things and not volunteer.”
The older generation knows how to volunteer, Mr. James said.
With the new committee members having children, they want to see various events in the community continue, such as the ball league; skating rink; Canada Day celebration and the winter carnival.
A landscaper, Mr. James said he has time in the winter months to organize events.
This year’s winter carnival was almost wholly organized by the new committee. Mr. James admitted the previous committee provided guidance and helped when asked. But, he said, they’ve also provided us with pages of information kept from previous events.
This was his first winter carnival and it was a blast.
The event was Saturday with breakfast, poker run, lunch, tea boiling competition, cross-cut saw competition, games on the ice, and a great opportunity to catch up with what’s going on with the neighbours.
Mr. James said for more information on the FFAA, regularly check the association’s facebook page.
