WHITEWATER REGION — Whitewater Region council approved $23,450 for the first intake of the 2019 partnership and sponsorship grants.
The list of organizations that received approval at last night’s council meeting are:
Beachburg Horticultural Society: $900
Big Give Cobden: $700
Crossroads Community Club: $800
Dodgeball League: $500
Lanark Renfrew Health and Community Services: $3,000
Muskrat Watershed Council: $5,000
Ottawa Valley Yoga and Wellness Event: $550

Westmeath and District Recreation Association: $4,000
Whitewater Historical Society: $2,500
Whiskers of Whitewater: $1,000
Foresters Falls Athletic Association: $4,000.
Councillor Dave Mackay voted against the Whiskers of Whitewater grant, while Councillor Chris Olmstead left council chamber’s when the vote was taken for the athletic association. He noted his business could be supplying materials for work the association is undertaking.
The grant discussion first took place at the April 4 Whitewater Region council meeting. The township received a total of 19 applications totalling $59,011. On the list not to receive funds were the Beachburg Agricultural Society, Breadwinner’s Cufflinks Junior Gentleman Club, Ottawa Valley Yoga and the Tyler McEnroe Memorial Hockey Tournament. Two were deferred to the September 1 intake — Cobden Santa Claus Parade and Renfrew County Junior Farmers.
Removed from the original list was White Water Rocks, which occurred following a discussion about the event, which is not a not-for-profit organization.
Councillor Daryl McLaughlin said he is still waiting to see the financial reports of the organizations that received funding last year, which was a stipulation if that same organization wanted funding again.
Chief Administrative Officer Robert Tremblay said a report will be coming to council with the financial statements.
When questioned about Whiskers of Whitewater financial statement, CAO Tremblay said no statement will be forthcoming, as the money was paid directly to the veterinarian for spaying and neutering feral cats.
