WESTMEATH — Westmeath Public School is an integral part of our community and to lose this piece of history would be disheartening. The school gives back to the community in many ways.
For instance, outside the school’s main doors there is a book shrub, where members of the community can take a book, at no cost, or drop off previously enjoyed books for others to read.
Another example was during the recent Westmeath Winter Carnival. Staff and students of both Our Lady of Grace Catholic School and Westmeath Public School came together to enjoy a group skate and a friendly game of Staff versus Students Broomball. Following the game, a combined donation of $1,000 was presented to the Westmeath & District Recreation Association.
A Town Hall Meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 22 at 7 p.m. at the Westmeath Arena, upstairs hall. During this meeting, information will be presented to the members of the community and those who wish to support the WPS Save Our School movement. Information on actions the committee has taken and our next steps as to how the community can continue to show their support.
On Thursday, April 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the Westmeath Arena, Upstairs Hall, a Public Meeting where the Renfrew County District School Board will present the WPS Accommodation Review, the Initial Staff Report, the accommodation option and the School Information Profile Reports. General Public will have the opportunity to provide input or comments on the accommodation review and the initial staff report.
During the Westmeath Winter Carnival, WPS SOS Membership Ribbons were sold at a cost of $2. These ribbons will be made available for purchase throughout the Westmeath Community. The money raised from this campaign will be put towards a 110th Anniversary Celebration for Westmeath Public School, or a Farewell Commemorative Celebration. f you or someone you know would like to donate $2 (the cost of a membership ribbon) but are not in the area, a Go Fund Me page has been set up. www.gofundme.com/wpssaveourschool
