RENFREW-NIPISSING-PEMBROKE — Dan Criger, Independent candidate for the riding of Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke, has released his platform for the federal election scheduled for October 21, 2019.

The platform focuses on how an Independent MP can be more effective than an MP aligned with a political party, especially when there is a minority government. A minority government will need the support of any Independent MPs since they likely will not be working with other parties.

“To get my support for any legislation they will need to include items that people of this riding want – otherwise they would face the possibility of another election. I would use the parliamentary arithmetic of a minority government to benefit the people of this riding,” said Mr. Criger.

Even without a minority government an Independent MP can be effective, “I have the experience behind me to get legislation through parliament and the experience to work with diverse people in order to get things done.”

Jobs and the cost of living are important issues addressed in the platform.

“There are a lot of people suffering in Renfrew County,” said Mr. Criger. “People without jobs have to move back in with their parents, and even those with jobs are having a hard time finding affordable housing. I will work to make life more affordable for seniors people with low and middle incomes.”

Despite the challenge of a campaign against an entrenched incumbent, Mr. Criger is confident of pulling off a victory.

“I have talked to hundreds of people lately and there is a lot of discontent with our current MP, but people tell me that they have no other choice. Now they do.

I have the business experience, and my campaign manager has the government experience, and we both have the drive to succeed. We make a great team, and it is teamwork that makes us stronger than the individual parts.

In the same way, individuals together make for strong Families, and Families together make strong Communities, and Communities together make a strong Canada.”
