RENFREW — The future home for 10 family physicians, the Renfrew Victoria Hospital Sleep Products store, Gama- Dynacare blood services and Renfrew Family Chiropractic is quickly taking shape.
Members of both the RVH Board of Directors and Foundation Board, along with a handful of staff members, were invited to view the new professional medical building as it nears the finishing stages of construction.
“This is another significant investment for our organization” said Randy Penney, CEO Renfrew Victoria Hospital. “When completed, this project will assist with the recruitment of new physicians to our community. Once again, from a management perspective, we are on schedule and on budget”.
The latest major construction project on the RVH campus is designed by architect Brian Dickey. He gave everyone a guided tour of the 18,900-square foot facility last month.
He first pointed out in the main corridor visitors will have access to a gender-neutral washroom—a requirement as part of regulated new public building construction code.
In the clinic area, he noted they sought input from Dr. Steven Radke and other RVH physicians during the design process. The patient clinic space boasts essentially the same features as the professional building located at 510 Raglan Street, with a few improvements and slightly larger patient rooms.
The waiting room area has capacity for 85 patients to sit comfortably with patient triage areas for receiving patients before entering the exam rooms.
He explained that the corner is designated as the children’s play area with extra heating vents: “Like 510 (Raglan Street), the kids are playing on the floor and that is to warm the children, not trying to warm the whole space.”
Paint colours have already been applied in some areas and cabinetry has been installed in some patient rooms.
The new RVH Sleep Store space is triple the size of its current store in the lower level of 500 Raglan Street with a spacious waiting room, three large patient consultation rooms, examination rooms, physician offices, manager’s office, staff room and a massive storage room.
The storage room will provide an opportunity for the Sleep Products team to keep a healthy supply of sleep aid products on hand for patients, said Dickey.
The tour also included the Gama-Dynacare blood services space and Renfrew Family Chiropractic clinic, which Dickey said have been designed with the future tenants’ full input as far as their unique style and requirements for their clients’ needs.
The building is slated to open in September for patients.
“From a timeline perspective, tenants will be able to transition into the building in August and have plenty of time to get settled and open for patients after the Labour Day long weekend,” said Tim Sonnenburg, RVH’s Vice President of Financial Services.
