COBDEN — The Grade 8 concert band at Cobden District Public School received a mark of 90 per cent at the Kiwanis Music Festival held in Pembroke last month.
The band consists of 19 students in Grade 8 and three students in Grade 7.
The band consists of flutes, clarinets, trumpets, saxophones, trombones and percussion instruments, said teacher Jenny Bell.

The band performed three songs: Creatures in the Attic, a song depicting the sounds of little critters traipsing about upstairs; Fire’s Edge, a song that depicts an atmospheric phenomenon called a Firestorm; and Royal Crown March, a march written for the coronation of a king.

“We were the only band in our division,” Ms. Bell said. “The students received many positive
comments from the adjudicator about their performance. He commented on how well they blended their sounds together.”
The band has been invited to return to play at the Festival of Stars on Thursday, March 24.
