It’s all in the Cards

I went and did it again. I had my Tarot cards read at a lunch café in Pembroke. Not the first time either as I had it done three times previously over the years and that’s not counting the effort in Manhattan. Every reading was different. Why?
This time I was more aloof and asked the reader, “Do Tarot card readings really work?” The answer was a pert, “Yes! They can be a huge source of guidance and wealth.” I said, “Okay, let’s do it.”
I was dealt a hand that was more balanced than ever before and incredibly no bad news. She said it shows me winding down my current interests but that something more important was in store. I thought, “I’m too old to go back to work with my arthritis and my aching back and I am sure sports is out.” When they also implied getting training or going back to school, I said, “Maybe we should shuffle those cards again!” My aspiration of more education at my age is like me walking the thinnest of thin lines. When she next inferred that one card showed that I enjoyed controversy and upsetting people, I feigned some annoyance (but I knew it was true).
Most agree that Tarot card readings do work. And when done correctly, the cards can be a large source of guidance and help. They can also expose creative thinking processes along a path that might never have been thought of before.
One time those cards were correct bigtime. On two visits to my hometown about a decade ago I had my cards read on the Quebec side twice. Signs of a failing marriage were prevalent the first time. How could the cards illustrate this, I had told no one? The next year the reader said, “A divorce is looming in the near future.” A few days after back in Wasaga Beach and during a heated exchange, my wife shouted, “I want a divorce.” I let it slide but when I returned home from work the next day, a “For Sale” sign was decisively planted into the front lawn. This time my wife was serious and so was my Tarot card reader. Was that double-down plain and simple synchronicity or what! Tonya Sheridan said it best: “I believe in the magic of the cards to inspire us to let go of old ideas and restrictions.” I was sure inspired: I let go of my wife, my house and a job all in one swoop. I was beleaguered but keen to learn what was coming next.
Continuing to backtrack, the previous visit for a card reading was in Alliston, situated part way between Scarborough and Wasaga Beach. I needed answers and fast. Our house in Scarborough was up for sale and moving slower than a one-fingered typist and the closing date of a new home in Wasaga Beach was creeping closer. The lay of the Tarot cards dispelled some concerns but added more mystery. The reader predicted, “You will one day own property up north.” Now living in Westmeath again it does make sense but it took so long before it happened.
It is said that the Tarot is not just a deck of cards, but one having a living, breathing entity. It has the ability to tap into the Universal energies that surround us all. Most important is that you can either take what the cards say with a grain of salt or you can use them to help make the best choice possible.
My introduction to the Tarot cards was with a sister who was dabbling with it and making positive strides. When she read mine, it told me my future employment would be as a Canadian diplomat in South America. For months, I waited on that offer but it never came.
That bus tour when my partner and I were visiting Manhattan, the mystic of Times Square reminded me of Tarot cards. We did come across a townhome advertising Tarot readings but unfortunately it was closed for the day and the bus was returning to the Valley at the crack of dawn. I still muse about what prospects I missed out on!
