Canadian country music star Jason Blaine has made it possible for his hometown Ottawa Valley to benefit from even more funding in celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday.
The Pembroke Petawawa District Community Foundation (“Foundation”) partnered with Community Foundations of Canada (“CFC”) earlier this year to bring grant money to the local community. The Foundation agreed to raise $10,000 which would be matched by CFC for a total of $20,000 in grants locally. That money was raised by the 100 Women Campaign, which put their $10,000 in the bank last month.
When CFC heard of the Foundation’s success, they offered an additional $5,000 in grants if the Foundation could match it. That’s when Jason Blaine, who has an endowment fund established with the Foundation already, offered to match that contribution, thereby bringing an additional $10,000 to Renfrew County.
“This opportunity to partner with CFC has been a great Christmas gift for the Foundation,” says Matt Bradley, Chair of the Pembroke Petawawa District Community Foundation. “The 100 Women Campaign was a great success, and then to have Jason make it possible for us to contribute another $10,000 to the community, it’s just a tremendous expression of giving.”
Blaine, who is well known for his hometown charitable giving, felt the opportunity was one he couldn’t pass up.
“It was a great opportunity to double a charitable contribution and bring additional funds to Renfrew County in celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday,” he said. “I was inspired by the work of the 100 Women Campaign in this initiative and feel fortunate to be able to top up their awesome efforts.”
Grant applications are now open and available for all eligible organizations in Renfrew County. Applications will close January 15, 2017 so organizations are encouraged to apply for funding early.
Organizations eligible to apply for this grant include:
• Registered charities
• Registered Canadian amateur athletic associations
• Registered housing corporations resident in Canada constituted exclusively to provide low-cost housing for the aged
• Registered Canadian municipalities
• Registered municipal or public bodies performing a function of government in Canada
