Kings can’t seem to get on the winning side of the scoreboard

WHITEWATER REGION (Cobden) — It was a tough weekend for the Whitewater Kings as they lost two games at the Astrolabe Arena in Cobden.

The Winchester Hawks came to town Saturday night and returned home with an overtime victory of 6-5 while the Ottawa West Golden Knights played a Sunday afternoon game and won 5 to 3.

This weekend, the Brockville Tikis come to the Astrolabe Arena in Cobden for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop against the Kings.

In the Saturday night game, the Kings were first on the scoreboard in just a little over a minute into the first period. Dylan Kuehl scored twice in the first with assists to Conrad Cybulski and Quinn Vanhoof.

In the second period, King Liam Enright scored, assist to Artyom Shiman and Reid Barber.

In the final period, they were down by two, but Barber and Liam Enright scored to even it up, assists to Shiman, Kiefer Levasseur, Cybulski and Kuehl.

In the overtime frame, Winchester’s Miguel Pare scored at 4:04.

In the sin bin, the Kings sat out six minutes while the Hawks sat 12 minutes. No penalties were scored in the second period.

Kings goalie Kevin Proulx suffered the loss stopping 35 of 41 shots on goal while Hawk goalie Darien Johnson earned the win, stopping 32 of 37 shots on goal.

The second star was awarded to King Dylan Kuehl while the first and third stars were awarded to Hawks Miguel Pare and Graeme Buffone, respectively.

In Sunday afternoon’s game, both teams scored in the first period, with King Brayden Dellaire, assist Jake Pilon and Michael Hubers, scoring at the 15 minute mark.

In the second period, Dylan Kuehl scored, assist to Conrad Cybulski and Kiefer Levasseur, while the Knights were on the board twice.

 In the final period, it was a repeat of the second period, with the Hawks scoring twice and the Kings once, this time by Quinn Vanhoof, assist to Kuehl.

The Kings and Golden Knights were each in the penalty box for 25 minutes, including game misconduct and major fighting penalties for King Artyom Shiman and Knights Noah Haymes with just four minutes left in the second period.

King goalie Kevin Proulx suffered the loss stopping 26 of 29 goals while Golden Hawk goalie Andrew Lariviere stopped 26 of 31 goals.

King Brayden Dellaire was awarded the second star while first and third were awarded, respectively, to Knights Michael Gallivan and Noah Haymes.

Come out and cheer on the Kings Saturday night, 7:30 p.m. when the Tikis come to town.
