Letter: Dismay over Cenotaph Move Cancellation

Hello;

It is with great dismay that we read this effort has be cancelled. We were so looking forward to completion. What an appropriate area to re locate. Gives our fallen a place of distinction. Rather than a back street wedged between a group of broken down cars waiting for repair and an outside toilet. We certainly did not know this was being opposed otherwise we would have stated our opinions. We cannot understand the opposition, other than it has been there for so long and tradition prevails.

We are offspring of fathers who fought overseas in the Second World War. We take Remembrance Day and their memory, and sacrifice seriously. When we attend the cenotaph for the service we pay homage to all the Canadian fallen, not just the engraved names. Why cancel when we are so far into it ?? DO NOT understand. Many friends and neighbours we have talked to recently agree. You have listened to the naysayers. However we feel most of the folks who thought this was a positive effort did not know there was an issue, so you were not contacted by us.

Is there any other avenue we can pursue to re instate ? We are actually losing the $25,000 grant ??!! One friend has suggested a petition of names. We feel this could be divisive and plot resident against resident. However it may re affirm a decision either way.

The other issue…Westmeath dock…unusable too many residents. This needs no elaboration. It is what it is..deplorable.

Regards

John & Rose Meadows
